About Me

Picture
My name is Jacob Stubbs. I'm a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, where I received a bachelor of arts in English. As an English student, I wrote dozens of essays, short stories, and poems about the English language, history, art, and American culture. Several of the essays, short stories, and poems I wrote can be found here on this site. From the many writing courses I tok at IUPUI,  I have learned to pen clear and thoughtful compositions that employ an excellent use of rhetoric and SEO practices, and I have used these skills as a volunteer writer for four organizations throughout the past four years. These organizations are The Borgen Project, Das Fort Media, Impact Christian Fellowship, and the Malawi Project, Inc. In regard to Das Fort Media, I participated in a journalism and media internship with this organization in the fall of 2017. In this internship, I researched vehicles from Audi, Ford, Tesla, Chrysler, and Dodge and composed 13 detailed blog posts. These blog posts either revealed the future of automotive technology or marketed the vehicles I researched to customers of a client in Fort Wayne. In regard to The Borgen Project, I participated in a writing internship with this organization in the summer of 2019. My work in this internship included fundraising, lobbying Congress to support various forms of poverty-reducing legislation, and composing 10 articles that present information about issues related to global poverty.

Interests

I enjoy reading and writing about theology (especially Christian apologetics). In fact, from 2010 to 2015, I served as a bible teacher for a congregation of the Churches of Christ in Indianapolis. I enjoy reading and writing about history as well (particularly church history, ancient history, and world history). When I have the time and the interest, I like to read fantasy novels, especially those written from a Christian perspective, and I enjoy watching action, thriller, history, and fantasy films. As I go through my daily routine, I listen to trance music, new age music, trailer music, instrumental hip-hop, and Christian music. Art is another passion of mine, and I'm fascinated with a 3D rendering software called Daz Studio. My favorite food is pizza. And spending time with my family is what energizes me everyday (other than my parents, I have four younger brothers and one older sister).

My Background

I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. My father and mother became members of the Churches of Christ in the early 80s and raised my siblings and I to be Christians. In the year 1999, my parents decided to homeschool my siblings and I to provide us with an education better than the one we were receiving from public schools. I had no idea that my parents’ decision would have such a profound impact on my faith, knowledge, and personality.

I was homeschooled from 1999 to 2006, during my middle school and high school years. Throughout those years, my parents provided my siblings and I with Christian-based textbooks, such as the textbooks from Alpha Omega Publications and Abeka. As I read these textbooks, I discovered a fact about my faith that I had assumed was untrue: faith and reason are not enemies; they’re best friends.

I was fascinated by how subjects that were taught from a secular perspective in the public school textbooks I read from kindergarten to fifth grade were taught from a Christian perspective in the textbooks I studied during my years in homeschool. I slowly discovered that every subject can be understood from a Christian perspective. This simple fact had been hidden from me for most of my childhood. I call it a simple fact because if I had pondered about it just a little I would have quickly realized that my knowledge about the world can’t be detached from my faith because our world is God’s world. The dichotomy people put between faith and reason, religion and science, the sacred and the secular, and the public and private spheres of life is arbitrary. In fact, I realized that “secular” knowledge can't only coexist with my faith but can actually enhance it.

This realization is what inspired me to take an over twelve-year-long journey to increase my knowledge of God, His word, and His world and to use my interests and talents to glorify Him. Through these twelve years of growth, I believe God has used my open-mindedness, my curiosity, and my desire to be as rational as possible to reveal truths to me I never knew I would discover when my journey began. In addition, throughout my long time as a part-time student at Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), God helped me improve the writing talents He gave me.

The Goals of this Website

Thus, I intend this website to serve two purposes. One, it will display my published work and resume to employers who would like to hire me. Two, it will be the domain through which I'll share my interests with the world and connect and communicate with those who share those interests. As my knowledge increases, as I develop new ideas, and as my skills improve, the form and content of my posts and pages is subject to change any moment.

Disclaimer

Regarding the theological topics I’ll discuss, as a member of the Churches of Christ, I take bible study very seriously. Even though I don't always exhibit these traits, I always try to be open-minded, rational, humble, honest, and thorough in my studies. I also strongly believe in carefully examining the views of those that disagree with me. It’s precisely this approach to bible study that has forced me to alter many beliefs I had before I started my journey twelve years ago, and some of those beliefs were central to my identity as a member of the Church of Christ. I will devote many posts to discussing these changes in my beliefs. Even though I may seem confident about some of my beliefs, I respect those that disagree with me and don’t demand that anyone agree with me on anything. No Christian answers to any other Christian about his or her beliefs; we all answer only to Jesus. All I ask is that you would carefully consider why I believe what I believe. And even though those that compose my primary audience are members of the Churches of Christ, this website is for all who have faith in Christ, no matter what denomination they're a member of.

The Future of this Website

I’m excited to see where this website will go in the future. I hope the small amount of knowledge God has blessed me with will help you understand Him, His word, and His world a little more. If you have comments, questions, or suggestions on anything I'll write, I might not respond immediately, but I'll try to respond to as many of them as I can. I don’t have all the answers, and I never will. And God is still sanctifying me. Yet I hope you'll return to this website again and again for your intellectual stimulation, spiritual edification, literary pleasure, and aesthetic enjoyment.

May God bless you, and please pray that God will bless me on this new phase of my Christian journey.
